I much preferred my own place and freedom than living back in with my parents, which is currently where I abide – although it’s only temporary and my new home should be settled soon, it’s been hard on both sides – for both my parents to understand that a lot can change in a person when they’re gone for three years, and for me to get to grips with the way that they’ll never be able to see me as anything other than their son. It’s not awful or anything, its just not ideal.

’'for both my parents to understand that a lot can change in a person when they’re gone for three years’’
You’ve hit the nail on the head. You don’t even register that this is happening at first. It’s something that dawns on you, from like you said, both perspectives.
